Marketing Strategist

I’ve spent 15 years in marketing, agency-side and in-house, and most of the problems I’m brought in to fix trace back to the same thing. There’s plenty of activity, and no strategy connecting it to what the business is trying to achieve.

Your team is busy, but if you asked what all of it is building towards, you’d get a slightly different answer from everyone. This is when people assume marketing doesn’t work, when really it was never pointed at anything.

When I build your Marketing Strategy, you get:

Why invest in a Marketing Strategy?

A junior marketer can execute, and a good agency can run a campaign properly.

What neither can do is decide what the business should be doing in the first place, and how the marketing activity relates back to the commercial goals of the business.

I step into your business to work out what's holding your marketing back, and give you a strategy built specifically for your business. The strategy will be your roadmap to achieving your goals. All you need to do is follow it.

Who this is for

A Marketing Strategy might work for you if:

It’s not the right fit if:

This works best when you’re open to challenge and honest conversation.

How I build your Marketing Strategy

My proven methodology gives my clients a blueprint to achieving their business goals.

Research

I get under the skin of your business and your business objectives. I audit your current state and where you sit against your competitors. Conducting thorough audience research to get a clear view of where you are right now.

Strategy

Using what I’ve found, I build the strategy. Where you should be positioned, what you should be saying, which channels to prioritise, and how every part of it links back to your business goals.

Strategy delivery

This is the fun part – where we fit all of the pieces together to make a clear plan. It will show you exactly what you need to be doing (and not doing!), and when. It will show your KPIs and how you should be reporting to keep on track for business success. Then I walk your team or agency through it, so everyone leaves knowing their part.

You may have questions...

A marketing strategy is what connects your marketing activity to your business objectives. Without one, marketing tends to happen in a scattergun way: posting, running ads, emails sent out, but nothing compounds and nothing clearly ties back to revenue or growth.

A strategy gives you clarity on who you’re targeting, what your message is, which channels to focus on, and in what order. It means every piece of marketing activity is deliberately moving you closer to your commercial goals.

Typically 4–6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the business. Scope and timelines are agreed upfront before work begins.

Very little. I hold a workshop with you to extract the information I need, then conduct short interviews with key people in your business. My aim is to take up as little of your time as possible while still seeing everything that matters. You’ll know what’s needed upfront.

Yes, but I’m very considerate about how. AI is incredibly powerful, but it is only a tool. I never recommend allowing AI to set your marketing strategy, because its outputs lack genuine research, a deep understanding of your specific business and audience, and more often than not the results are generic and miss the context and experience that only an expert marketer can bring.

I use AI to speed up parts of the process, for example summarising meeting notes, finding consistencies across customer interviews, and processing research. The thinking, the insight, and the strategic decisions are all mine.

You have options. You can take the strategy plan and implement it with your own team, hand it to your agencies, or I can lead the implementation alongside your team as a Fractional Marketing Director.

A lot of clients choose the latter, so they know the strategy is being delivered most effectively, by the person who developed it. There’s no obligation either way, and it’s a conversation we have at the end of the engagement.

You receive a comprehensive, documented strategy and action plan. It covers your target audience, positioning, messaging, channel priorities, a phased plan of what to do and when, KPIs, and reporting recommendations. It’s designed to be practical and actionable, not a document that sits on a shelf.

Some clients ask for accountability sessions, where we check in once a month to ensure progress is being made.
